PROBLEM
Protection against corrosion of the condenser’s inner and outer surfaces.
SOLUTION
Application of a thermosetting epoxy-phenolic coating on the inner surfaces of the pipes and tube plates, followed by an inorganic galvanising treatment on the outer surfaces of the exchanger shell. Surface preparation includes blasting with steel grit/shot and the removal of residual abrasive material using compressed air. Coating is performed by applying 8 coats of Phencote 11 inside the pipes and on the tube plates, followed by sanding of the tube plates and the application of subsequent coats of resin. Outer coating involves applying an inorganic galvanising treatment. Final checks include measuring the pipe thickness, a video-endoscopic inspection, sandblasting and roughness inspection, and a porosity check. The coating cycle was qualified according to the specifications and requirements.
