DURATION
Maintenance was performed from 19 June to 5 August 2023.
EQUIPMENT
The underground tanks used to store HEXANE, a solvent used in the process of extracting oil from pomace.
MATERIAL
The tanks are made of carbon steel (S235JR – UNI EN10025).
PROBLEM
The tanks present corrosion and defects due to the presence of condensate, hexane vapours and other substances resulting from the manufacturing process. These corrosive phenomena alter the behaviour of HEXANE and cause chemical corrosion on carbon steel surfaces. There are also defects in the tank welds.
SOLUTION
To prevent further corrosive phenomena and thinning of the metal plate, the surfaces were protected by applying a chemically resistant coating called PHENCOTE CHEMICAL FLAKE. Prior to the application of the coating, the sheet metal and welds were cleaned by applying molecular metal.
PHENCOTE CHEMICAL FLAKE is an extremely thick, chemical-resistant coating characterised by excellent adhesion to the metal substrate. It is designed to protect the inner surfaces of tanks from corrosion and mechanical wear.
